South Korean airline Korean Air has recently made a survey on Phu Quoc Island, a tourism hotspot in southern Vietnam, in preparation for the launch of its direct air service between Incheon and the island by the end of next year.

The news has been confirmed by Huynh Quang Hung, deputy chairman of the People’s Committee of Phu Quoc District off Kien Giang Province in the Mekong Delta.

Korea Air is planning to start its maiden direct flight between the two venues in late 2015 when the hotel complex Vinpearl Phu Quoc goes into operation on the island.

The first international flight to Phu Quoc was from Russia, made early this year on a once a week basis.

Phu Quoc currently receives 600,000 tourists a year. Its new airport, which was inaugurated in 2012, is capable of handling 2.6 million visitors per annum.

Since March 10 this year, international travelers have enjoyed a 30-day stay with no visa on Phu Quoc.

Now, the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines is operating direct flights between Incheon and Da Nang City in central Vietnam, with three return flights a week on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday by the Airbus A321 aircraft.

Besides, Vietnam and South Korea have several direct flights linking Seoul and Busan with Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang City.
