This year’s competition has attracted 116 beauties across the globe.

Created in 1951, Miss World pageant is one of the oldest international beauty pageants. In the year preceding the global finals, each delegate must win her national title or a specially designated Miss World national preliminary. Miss World's national preliminaries are conducted by their license-holders, who hold the franchise to use the "Miss World" name in their country.

Different from previous years, this year’s contest has launched an extra round titled People's Choice Online Voting” which allows netizens to vote for their favorite contestants by liking their Facebook pages.

Vietnam’s representative, Hoang My, who has been praised for her mix of Western and Eastern charms, intelligence, and good English skills, has received nearly 38,000 likes on her page.

On August 14, a tu va (Vietnamese ethnic horn) brought by My to the contest as a gift was auctioned for 100,000 RMB (US$15,700) at a contest’s sideline event where proceeds will go to poor children.
