The 6th Annual Canadian Education Week gathering 70 participating Canadian institutions will take place in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City from October 5 to 11, the Consulate General of Canada in the southern city said Monday in a press release.    The institutions represent the full range of education options, from kindergarten to Grade 12, language programs, all the way to college and university.

The 2014 Canadian Education Week in Vietnam is being held by the Consulate General of Canada in the southern economic hub in cooperation with the Embassy of Canada in the capital city.

It aims to help students and families learn about Canada’s education system and study options available, the visa application process, and work opportunities for international students after graduation.

“The Consulate General of Canada is pleased to once again organize the Canada Education Week, bringing together some 70 Canadian educational institutions to meet with parents and prospective students in Vietnam,” Wayne Robson, Consul General of Canada, said in the media release.

Now in their sixth year, the Canada education fairs in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are key events not only in promoting Canada’s world-class education in Vietnam, but in promoting and enhancing greater Canada-Vietnam people-to-people linkages, Consul General Robson added.

Highlights of the week are the fairs which are open to the public and will last from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on October 5 at Melia Hotel in Hanoi, and on October 11 at Intercontinental Asiana Saigon Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City.

A special seminar on applying for student visas will be led by a Canadian immigration official, aimed at providing the public with transparent and clear guidance on this topic of concern.

Participants will have the opportunity to meet with many of Canada’s leading universities like the University of British Columbia, the University of Alberta, the University of Calgary, the University of Victoria, the University of Manitoba, the University of Saskatchewan, Concordia University, the University of New Brunswick, Laurentian University, the University of Guelph, and York University.

“I look forward to traveling to Ho Chi Minh City to meet with visiting Canadian educational institutions as well as with parents and prospective students participating in the Canada Education Fair. Promoting greater cooperation in all aspects of education is critical as we develop and enhance Canada’s bilateral relationship with Vietnam,” David Devine, Ambassador of Canada, was quoted as saying in the press release.

According to the media release, Canada spends more per capita on education than any other G8 country and welcomes more than 100,000 international students every year.

Canada’s world-class educators, cutting-edge technology, competitive tuition fees, diverse population, and opportunities for international graduates to stay and work to gain international experience make the North American country one of the best choices for prospective students.

A recent survey says international students studying in Canada pay some of the lowest fees amongst Western developed nations; lower than Australia, the U.S., and the UK.
