-- Police in Hai Duong northern province on Tuesday compensated fishermen in Ho Chi Minh City’s Can Gio rural district VND650 million (US$30,893) for the loss caused by their illegal seizure of the fishermen’s 2 tons of octopus.

-- The National Hospital of Pediatrics based in Hanoi has become the second hospital in Vietnam to be authorized to re-define gender, according to a recent decision signed by deputy minister of health Nguyen Viet Tien.

-- Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thanh Trung, former police chief of Khanh Son district in the central coastal province of Khanh Hoa, has been arrested and charged with “consumption of illegally seized property”, a source told Tuoi Tre.

-- Two 7-year-old boys have fallen into a well in Hoa An commune, Bien Hoa town in southern Vietnam. Doctors said one died and the other is in critical condition.

-- Police in Ho Chi Minh City’s Phu Nhuan district have detained a man suspected of beating and robbing lottery tickets from a 72-year-old man seller. The suspect has been identified as Nguyen Dao Ba Tue, 31.

-- A dead sea lion, weighing around 200 kilograms, has been found washed ashore in Phu Quoc island in southern province of Kien Giang on June 10.

-- Police in My Tho town in Tien Giang southern province have caught red-handed Pham Hoai Nam, 40, judge of My Tho People’s Court, using drugs together with a 22-year-old man at a hotel room in the town.

Business:

-- Thanks to an aid packet worth VND30 trillion (US$1.44 billion), an apartment under social housing projects in Hanoi will cost under VND12 million (roughly $600) per square meter, said deputy minister of construction Nguyen Tran Nam.
