Ho Chi Minh City police said Tuesday they are investigating a burglary in which a young man was filmed entering a house and taking away assets worth over US$9,000, including two iPhone 5’s, when the owner was sleeping last month.

The break-in took place at a house on Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street, Ward 5 in District 3 on March 23, police said.

The house was protected by two doors and a surveillance camera system but the burglar still managed to get in.

As shown in the footage, a young man puts a long stick through one of the holes of the rolling door to take a bunch of keys placed on a desk inside the house.

He then uses one of the keys to open the rolling door and easily enters the house via the glass door, left open at the time, as seen in the clip.

The thief then searched the house, went into and out of the house owner's room for three times, and took away many assets.

The owner, identified only as S., was soundly sleeping on the first floor when the burglar wielded a knife to repeatedly visit his room.

The thief then escaped on the motorbike of the house owner without anyone's knowledge.

After discovering the break-in, S. reported it to district police and provided them with the video captured by his surveillance camera system.

S. said that the burglar had stolen a motorbike, two laptops, two iPhone 5’s, two handbags, an amount of money, and some other possessions.

The total value of these items is about VND200 million (US$9,400), S. told police.

City police are tracking down the culprit.
