Ho Chi Minh City wrestles with high tide (photos)

Residents of Ho Chi Minh City have struggled to deal with the highest tides since the beginning of this year, which hit the southern hub on Monday night.
Many areas were seriously inundated, affecting the lives of locals and posing difficulty for commuters.
Along one section of Huynh Tan Phat Street in District 7, water rose to knee-height, resulting in the breakdown of many motorcycle engines.
Meanwhile, tidal water about one meter high completely devoured Le Van Luong Street in Nha Be District.
Residents in the vicinity also struggled to cope with the situation as their homes became filled with floodwater.
Travelling on flooded roads became a challenge as many commuters tripped and fell, and had to continue their journeys in wet clothes.
According to Ton Van Khoi, of Nhon Duc Commune, Nha Be District, rising tides had occurred for several days, submerging streets and homes.
“However, the water level on Monday evening was the highest compared to previous days,” Khoi continued.
According to the Southern Regional Hydrometeorological Center, water levels in the Saigon and Dong Nai Rivers are forecast to peak at 1.5 meters between 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm on Monday and Tuesday.
The tide is expected to rapidly drop after that, the center added.
