Ho Chi Minh City township welcomes Tet with traditional hue in flower fest

An urban area of Ho Chi Minh City has thrilled residents with a vivid flower festival for the upcoming Tet, or Vietnamese Lunar New Year.

Phu My Hung, an upper-class township District 7, has excited locals and visitors by opening its annual flower festival on Monday to celebrate Tet with a richly traditional atmosphere featuring various locations in Vietnam.

Themed “Back to the Village,” the fest is highlighted by restored miniatures that signify the beauty of Vietnamese homelands from the north to the south of the country, each having identical exhibitions.

The countryside in the northern region is depicted by a country road, and an antique village gate full of moss, old with stained walls; the central region’s village site is highlighted by versions of water wheels, a feature of its rural area; while fishnets and watch towers in the rivers characterize villages in southern Vietnam.

Such hues and shades have charmed their way through many hearts, arousing a love for the homeland among the fragrance of flowers and grass of the countryside.

Visitors love it

On Tuesday, dozens of visitors spent their time wandering around the flower street, enjoying the exhibitions, while lots of young people ‘wefie’ and ‘selfie’ with their friends.

“The festival this year has a more sophisticated design, and is more familiar to the people here as well as those from other regions,” said Mai Thi, a resident of District 6, sightseeing with her fiancé and son.

The festival is open to visitors until February 13 (Saturday), which falls on the 6th day of the first month in the lunar calendar.

The Lunar New Year, celebrated in Vietnam to honor family reunion and recreation, will begin on February 8.

It will host a myriad of ceremonial preparations as well as festive exhibitions which customarily last from one week before until one week after the date.
