A photo exposition and an art exhibit, which both feature Vietnam’s resolve to safeguard its sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos, are running in the capital city of Hanoi and the central province of Khanh Hoa from now until June 30.

The photo exhibition, “Chung Suc Bao Ve Chu Quyen Bien Dao Viet Nam” (Let’s Safeguard Vietnam’s Sovereignty over Its Seas and Islands), is running at 2-4 Square in Khanh Hoa’s Nha Trang City.

The event features old maps, which were published in Western countries in the 18th and 19th centuries and serve as legal evidence for Vietnam to reiterate its ownership of Truong Sa and Hoang Sa.

Also on display are photos of soldiers and residents in Truong Sa from 1975, as well as more recent photos capturing the Vietnamese law enforcement force’s persistence and validity in demanding China’s withdrawal of the Haiyang Shiyou 981 drilling rig.

In a similar vein, an art exhibit themed “Chu Quyen Bien Dao Cua Viet Nam” (Vietnam’s Sovereignty over Its Seas and Islands) is also ongoing at 29 Hang Bai, Hoan Kiem District in Hanoi.

The exhibit showcases 55 new works of art, including paintings, sculptures and art installations, by 50 local artists.

The works also depict Vietnamese soldiers and residents who are set on reiterating the country’s sovereignty over its seas and islands, along with stunning seascapes and maritime activities.

Beijing has illegally put the Haiyang Shiyou 981 drilling rig in the Vietnamese waters of the East Vietnam Sea since May 1, in spite of vehement opposition from Hanoi and wholehearted support for Vietnam from other countries.
