Vietnam is consistent in carrying out a peaceful foreign policy and prioritizes the enhancement of its relationship with China, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has said during his official visit to the East Asian country.

PM Phuc, along with a delegation of elite Vietnamese officials, arrived in Nanning City, Guangxi, on Saturday afternoon, commencing his visit to China from September 10 to 15 at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang, the Vietnam Government Portal reported.

On the evening of the same day, the Vietnamese head of government joined talks with China’s Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli.

The Vietnamese leader stressed that Hanoi would always apply a peaceful, independent, multilateral, and diversified foreign policy.

The Southeast Asian country also focuses on reinforcing and boosting its cooperation with China, which is one of the top priorities in its external policy, he continued.

During his stay in Guangxi, PM Phuc is scheduled to confer with leaders of the Chinese Party and government to figure out measures to promote stable development in the China-Vietnam relationship.

More regular exchanges between high-ranking officials and state agencies of the two nations are expected to be conducted in the coming time, according to the Vietnamese premier.

Existing problems in the two countries’ cooperation in economic matters, trade, and investment will be addressed in order to bring it to a new developmental phase.

Focus will also be directed to the amicable settlement of disputes in accordance with international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) to maintain peace and stability in the East Vietnam Sea.

PM Phuc is slated to join other leaders of ASEAN member states in the China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) and the China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (CABIS) in Guangxi.

ASEAN is short for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, which is a political and economic organization whose members include Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The events are anticipated to be attended by 2,500 businesses from ASEAN member countries and China.
