Kids learn English through making Christmas cakes at Vietnam school

Students at a Ho Chi Minh City primary school are enjoying the most special month of the year in their English classes, with flour and cream being the key teaching tools instead of chalk and a blackboard.

Foreign English teachers are instructing their students at Luong The Vinh Elementary School not only how to use the language, but how to make cakes to celebrate Christmas.

The special class is running through December for students from grades 2 to 5 at the District 7-based school.

The teachers will first introduce the necessary ingredients, equipment, and techniques to make a cake to students in English, before guiding them through the process of making the Xmas delicacy.

“Making cakes to study English not only helps students learn the language, but also life skills,” Ho Thi Ngoc Thanh, head of the school’s English department, said.
