Ford Vietnam recalls 728 cars over bolt defect potentially causing crashes

Ford Vietnam recalls 728 cars over bolt defect potentially causing crashes

Friday, January 29, 2016, 16:24 GMT+7

A Vietnamese subsidiary of Ford Motor Company on Friday began retrieving over 720 models of Ford EcoSport that have been sold in the country due to a bolt fault that may cause accidents.

The Vietnam Register, in charge of vehicle registration, has announced that it had approved Ford Vietnam’s decision to recall 728 vehicles of the Ford EcoSport model, which were manufactured between December 29, 2014 and March 10, 2015, as a potential bolt defect has been discovered.

The beam of the rear suspension is linked to the vehicle body by a set of bolts and nuts, the Vietnam Register said.

There is a possibility that the bolts have not been tightened as stated in the specifications, which could cause them to break, affecting the functionality of the cars as well as increasing the risk of accidents.

Ford Vietnam has advised its customers to promptly bring their vehicles to its dealerships or authorized service centers in order to have the flaw fixed.

The recall of the Ford EcoSport began on Friday and is expected to be completed on June 1, 2018.

It takes around two hours to repair each car, Ford Vietnam said.

Ford Vietnam is a joint venture established in 1995 between Ford Motor Company and Song Cong Diesel Company, with total investment of US$102 million.

The carmaker, whose plant is in the northern province of Hai Duong, began its business operation in 1997 with a total plant capacity of 14,000 units per year.
