Film director criticized for defaming Trinh’s music

A local film director has angered many people by expressing his negative look on the music of renowned late composer Trinh Cong Son.

In a recent interview with giaoduc.net newswire, the director confirmed his opinion that “Trinh’s music has a bad affect on listeners’ nervous systems.”

“I have so far found no reason to change that thought. Actually it’s my personal opinion,” Quang told the newswire.

The director later continued to add more fuel to the fire by saying the melodies and lyrics in Trinh’s music mainly reflect complaints about life and destiny.

“The ideology in Trinh’s music orients listeners to give up on destiny,” Khang said.

In response to claims that his statements were simply a PR trick, Khang said, “I see the music will affect people, so I made a warning. If they are not affected, it means they have a good nervous system. There are some people who also agree with me. People have the right to express their opinions, and this is my personal opinion.”

Not content to stop there, Khang continued to shock Trinh music lovers by announcing that he has tired of listening to songs by the renowned musician.

“I’ve spent a lot of time listening to Trinh’s songs, and most of them make me feel tired and desperate. There are a few song that I like though, including Ha Trang, Diem Xua and De Gio Cuon Di due to their pure content. However when I feel sad I’ll meditate or travel, not listen to Trinh music’s or drink,” he added.

Asked if he is afraid of being criticized for his statements, the director said there’s no opinion which is absolutely right or wrong.

“Let’s take it as a new perspective, accepting or denying it depends on people. I’m just a person who knows how to share my perspective with others and I accept being criticized,” he explained.

Khang’s statements have been considered unacceptable by Trinh music lovers, who claim that he is simply trying to become famous by stating a controversial opinion.

“You can do anything to be famous. But please don’t take advantage of the works of a person who has passed away,” a netizen nicknamed Tuan stressed.

Still, Khang has supporters who say the director has been brave to tell the truth.

“People have rights to their own opinions. Trinh’s music is artwork and we, listeners, have a right to love it or not. Doan Anh Khang speaks out what he feels,” Ti commented, while Minh Tan added that “Many people think the way he thinks, but they’re afraid of showing it.”
