Hanoi police are investigating the death of a 24-year-old woman, whose corpse was found in a local hotel on Wednesday, three days after she was reported missing after going out with a Singaporean boyfriend.

Lam Thi H. reportedly entered a hotel in Hai Ba Trung District with the foreigner on September 27, but no one showed up to check out on the due date, September 30, according to the hotel staff.

The woman was found dead when an employee decided to break into her room.

Police were immediately called to the scene and are still investigating.

H. was taken back to her home town of Bac Giang for burial on Thursday.

Her family lost contact of H. for three days, and thought she had gone missing, until they were informed of her death, they said.

A family member told Nguoi Lao Dong (Labor) newspaper that she had been in a relationship with a 32-year-old Singaporean man, whom she met during a trip to the city-state earlier this year.

The Singaporean has since frequented Hanoi to see H. during weekends, and would stay at the same hotel in Hai Ba Trung District.

H. allegedly met him on September 27 and they later got into a quarrel, after which the woman left the hotel. But she returned late the same day and never got off her room until her death was detected.

Police said they are trying to reach the Singaporean man but he has allegedly returned home.
