A conference which discusses several topics including food security, water and energy management, and climate change solutions opened on Monday in Ho Chi Minh City, newswire Vietnamplus reported the same day.
The Asian Undergraduate Summit, which includes two phases and is being held for the first time, is expected to be an annual international event which encourages students to take part in social activities and enhances interactions among all young participants.
This year Vietnam has been selected to host the event’s first phase, which is jointly organized by the Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) and the National University of Singapore (NUS) from June 15 to 19.
Fifteen outstanding students selected by the VNU-HCM and 10 students from NUS are participating in eight workshops which cover numerous topics including food security, water and energy management, and climate change solutions.
The twenty-five students are divided into 10 groups to analyze or discuss solutions to these issues in specific districts, countries or regions.
After attending four seminars and field trips, each group will present their ideas on June 19. Besides discussing and raising their voice on such topics, the students will also have the chance to visit and work at the Hoa An Biodiversity Research Center at Can Tho University in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho and experience southern Vietnamese culture together. Ten out of the fifteen outstanding Vietnamese students will be invited to join the second phase of the Asian Undergraduate Summit, to be held in Singapore from July 5 to 12 with the participation of 100 representatives from Asian countries.
