-- The Hanoi administration and the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam jointly hosted a banquet and musical performance on Monday to celebrate the 67th anniversary of the two countries' ties.

-- Vietnam's State President Tran Dai Quang received Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Samdech Sa Kheng in Hanoi on Monday, speaking highly of the effective collaboration between Vietnam’s Public Security Ministry and Cambodia’s Ministry of Home Affairs.

-- Huynh Van Nen, 53, and a court in Binh Thuan Province in south-central Vietnam, which wrongfully sentenced him to  17 years and five months in jail on charges of murder, failed to reach a settlement on damages for him during the sixth negotiation round on Monday. Nen demanded VND13 billion (US$580,357) but the court only agreed to pay VND6.8 billion ($303,571).

-- A man who was caught transporting 116 ridley sea turtle eggs stolen from a national park off the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau was arrested and put in custody on charges of “violating regulations on the protection of rare, endangered wildlife” on Monday, following months of disagreement between the provincial procuracy and police on whether egg theft must be criminally penalized.

-- Six people were hospitalized with multiple injuries after being hit by a 'mad' buffalo that escaped from his cage in the southern province of Tay Ninh on Monday.

-- A tropical depression forming off the southern Philippines is forecast to enter the East Vietnam Sea on Wednesday, while a fresh cold spell will hit northern Vietnam the same time, according to the latest weather forecast released late Monday.

-- A Vietnamese man was caught carrying 50kg of crackers, which are completely banned in Vietnam, near the Vietnam-China border in Quang Ninh Province on Monday.

-- The administration of the southern province of Binh Duong has called on the government to allocate VND970 billion ($43.3 million) to develop a bridge connecting it with the neighboring province of Dong Nai within this year.

-- The steel plant in the north-central Vietnamese province of Ha Tinh of Taiwan’s Formosa Plastics Group will remain under strict supervision from local authorities in 2017 so that it will not be able to cause any environmental disaster like the mass fish deaths in April-May last year, Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung said on Monday.

-- Unexpected foul weather is taking a toll on Vietnamese florists, with many of their crops failing to bloom as planned.

-- An archeological exploration that began early October in the central city of Hue in search of the tomb of Emperor Quang Trung failed to find any evidence that may lead to the burial site of the emperor, who reigned over feudal Vietnam back in the 18th century, the researchers admitted at a wrap-up conference on Monday.
