Taxi driver charged for mugging female passenger in Da Lat

A taxi driver in the famous resort town of Da Lat has confessed that he had stolen about $760 from a female passenger early Wednesday.

The Da Lat People’s Procuracy started the same day legal proceedings against Pham Tuan Anh, 24, the taxi driver who had mugged N.T.T.H., 34, the female passenger.

According to police reports, Anh picked H. up at a nightclub in Da Lat at about 1:00 am.

Seeing the passenger drop her phone and cash while resting in the backseat, Anh picked her property and hid them in the car’s storage compartments. He then drove her around.

H. later woke up and found she had lost her money and phone, asking Anh to give her property back. But he only returned her the phone.

As H. said that she would call the police and shout for help, the driver stopped the car on the Prenn Mountain Pass and threw punches and kicks at her. He grabbed the phone from her hands.

Anh then threw H. out of the taxi and drove away, but the woman managed to hop on the hood of the vehicle, clinging herself to the wipers.

The driver then speeded up his vehicle to make her fall but he failed, hence stopping the car again at a road section at Truc Lam Temple outside Da Lat and beat H. until she fainted, before fleeing away.

According to H., Anh left her at the Tran Viet Vuong-Tran Thanh Tong intersection.

H. was able to find a nearby residence and reported the issue to police officers in Da Lat. She was later admitted to a hospital for treatment.

Anh admitted his crime at the police office, adding that he had stolen from H. US$300, VND1.5 million ($67.26), and MYR1,600 ($391.83).
