A cable car line in central Vietnam has been listed among the most amazing cable car experiences by a well-known U.S. news site, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said Friday on its website.

The Ba Na cable car line, located in the central city of Da Nang, was cited in CNN’s list of the world’s top ten amazing cable car systems.

“The world's longest cable car is more than five kilometers long. It opened in 2013, after various parts were shipped to Vietnam from Sweden, Switzerland and Germany,” CNN said of the 30 million euro (US$39 million) line.

“The cable connects the foot of Ba Na Mountain with the peak of neighboring Vong Nguyet and holds the record for the largest gondola departure station, which also serves as a museum about the history of the area,” it added.

The Ba Na cable car line can carry around 1,500 visitors per hour at six meters per second and has a total of 86 cabins which can accommodate ten people each. It was jointly built by Austria’s Doppelmayr Cable Car firm and Switzerland’s CWA Constructions Company.

The line became fully operational on March 29, 2013, on the occasion of Da Nang’s 38th anniversary of liberation.

It won four Guinness world records in 2013 for the longest non-stop single track cable car, with a total length of 5,771.61m; the highest non-stop single cable car, with a height difference of 1,368.93m; the longest single cable with a total length of 11,587m; and the heaviest cable reel, with a weight of 141.24 tonnes.

Besides Ba Na, other impressive cable cars listed by CNN included Switzerland’s Stanserhorn Cabrio, France’s Vanoise Express, HongKong’s The Ngong Ping 360, Brazil’s Sugarloaf Mountain Gondola, New Zealand’s Queenstown, and Canada’s Peak2peak Gondola.
