Eleven international bloggers will be taking tours across locations used in the recent Hollywood blockbuster ‘Kong: Skull Island’ and then write promotional reviews for Vietnam.
The bloggers, who come from Germany, France, Italy, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia and Taiwan, have already visited Hanoi and will continue their journey across the northern provinces of Quang Ninh, Ninh Binh and Quang Binh to get inspiration for their reviews of Vietnamese culture, people and cuisine.
According to Tran Thi Mai Huong from the Department of Tourism Marketing under Vietnam’s General Department of Tourism, the bloggers are members of the International Bloggers Association, and were invited by Vietnamese authorities to embark on the journey.
In Hanoi, the group visited historical and cultural attractions including Ngoc Son Temple, the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, and the Temple of Literature, plus tasted a number of local delicacies.
The bloggers took a boat tour around the world-famous Ha Long Bay in Quang Ninh Province, a popular destination that has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994.
“The purpose of the trip is to promote tours that follow the locations used in the movie ‘Kong: Skull Island’ as a means of promoting Vietnam’s tourism opportunities as a whole and introducing our tourism products to international friends,” Huong said.
“International audiences may know of Vietnam through ‘Kong: Skull Island’, but without a long-term promotional campaign like this, the hype would be over really fast,” she said. “Therefore, we need to take our campaign to the Internet through blogs, YouTube channels and other social media platforms to target an international audience.”
Vietnam’s General Department of Tourism and the international bloggers were scheduled to hold a press conference in Hanoi on Friday to announce their joint campaign.
‘Kong: Skull Island’, which hit cinemas on March 10, featured locations in the Vietnamese provinces of Quang Binh, Quanh Ninh and Ninh Binh for up to 70 percent of its runtime.
The movie, directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, starred Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, and Brie Larson in its principal cast.
As of April 26, the film has earned over US$559 million worldwide against a total budget of $185 million, according to box office-tracking site Box Office Mojo.
