-- Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Dinh La Thang has been dismissed from the Politburo for his violations during the 2009-11 period. Whether he will still be the Party chief of Ho Chi Minh City will be decided by the Politburo later.

-- Police in the Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh on Saturday arrested Le Lam Hung, the prime suspect in the armed bank heist that took place at a local branch of Vietcombank on April 26. Hung had taken nearly $100,000 worth of USD and VND from the lender.

-- A group of some 20 thugs on Sunday morning charged into the Hanoi Medical University Hospital and cut the throat of a male patient, who had been admitted to the infirmary earlier for a wound on his head. The victim’s condition was stabilized on the afternoon of the same day thanks to doctors’ effort.

-- A ship carrying seafood caught fire while docking off the south-central province of Binh Thuan on Sunday morning, causing damage worth nearly VND3 million ($132,038).

-- A project worth VND499 billion ($21.9 million) is set to be carried out in the third quarter of this year to upgrade and prevent flooding on Huynh Tan Phat Street in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City.
