Vietnam’s 2017 White Book on Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) was launched on Tuesday at a ceremony in Hanoi.

The annual publication, issued for the past eight years, provides official information and data on the ICT sector.

This year’s edition provides data in 12 areas, including IT application, information safety, telecommunications and broadcasting, according to Truong Minh Tuan, Vietnamese Minister of Information and Communications, who spoke at Tuesday’s launch.

Data on a number of new criteria such as online public services and television ratings were also added to meet popular demand, the minister noted.

The figures presented in the book have been aggregated from official reports between 2015 and 2016 by local administrations and government agencies under the Ministry.

According to Minister Tuan, the ministry has put their best effort into finishing the publication in the shortest possible time, while providing detailed information on the development of the ICT sector in Vietnam to meet growing demands for official data from foreign and domestic bodies and organizations.

“With the fast steps in ICT development over the past few years, Vietnam has held a high position in the international IT services and software outsourcing market,” Tuan was quoted by Viet Nam News as saying. “Last year, Vietnam took the first position in the economic index of mobile application use among six ASEAN countries.”

The White Book will be available in Vietnamese and English in October, with online versions uploaded on the ministry’s website for public reference.
