-- A 33-year-old Polish man, Cwiakala Rafal, has died in a fatal zip line accident on Thursday in the Central Highland Vietnamese tourist city of Da Lat along with his Vietnamese tour guide after the two illegally participated in an adventure game at Hang Cop Waterfall in the city’s Xuan Tho District.

-- A Ha Long Bay tourist yacht carrying 47 passengers, 45 of whom are foreigners, hit an unidentified submerged object on Thursday morning, resulting in a leakage and forcing tourists to be transferred to another yacht to continue their journey.

-- Twenty elementary and secondary students in the commune of Hanh Dinh in north-central Vietnam’s Nghe An Province has been diagnosed with glomerulonephritis, an acute inflammation of the kidney, in less than three months as health officials are struggling to track down the cause.

-- The People’s Committee of northern Vietnam’s Thanh Hoa Province is welcoming feedback on building options for an over VND2.3 trillion (US$102.68 million) public park spanning 527,000 square meters to honor the province’s culture.

-- A tourist marina in Hanoi’s West Lake which had been found to be violating multiple construction regulations was pulled down on Thursday by authorities of Tay Ho District, after the venue’s developer refused to remove the building as requested.

-- Surging global gasoline prices, which peaked at US$69 per barrel last Saturday in Singapore, are putting smiles on the faces of Vietnamese petroleum business owners while sparking worries among the people that consumer prices would hike accordingly.

-- An 11-day event aimed at assisting citizens in settling income tax will be held in Ho Chi Minh City March 6-17 by the municipal Tax Bureau, where participants are helped with declaring and paying their income tax by the city’s tax agents.

-- The State Bank of Vietnam has requested that the country’s state-owned commercial banks review the economic damage done by last April’s maritime environmental crisis and give a full report to aid the launch of government-initiated credit policies for those affected by the event.

-- Ta Quang Hy, CEO of local taxi company Vinasun, has proposed that the taxi-hailing service provider Uber be taxed more adequately for its income in Vietnam, as the U.S.-based company currently enjoys a VAT of only three percent on its 20-percent commission for every Uber ride.
