Rising river severely floods Vietnam's southern hub (photos)

The water level of the Saigon River in Ho Chi Minh City continued to rise on Friday, reaching up to 1.66 meters, submerging many areas, leaving numerous vehicles stranded, and blocking traffic on many streets.
>> HCMC flooded by rain for 4th day in row Yesterday afternoon, many residents in the Thanh Da tenement area in Binh Thanh District used wooden boards and bags of sand as barriers to prevent floodwater from entering their houses. Numerous shops in the area closed and moved theirs goods to other locations to avoid the rising water. Many people who were on the way home from work had to leave their motorbikes in parking lots and walk home through severely inundated streets. Similar problems were seen on Huynh Tan Phat Street in Nha Be District, where deep floodwater left vehicles broken down, inundated houses, and blocked traffic for hours. In District 7, drivers and pedestrians waded through deep water on streets such as Go O Moi, Pham Huu Lau, and Le Van Luong.
Similarly, sections of Districts 6, 8, 9, 11 and Thu Duc were flooded. This was the third day in a row that flooding had struck the city since the river began rising on Wednesday. There have been no reports of injuries caused by the floods so far, according to the city Center for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control.
The center said it has urged its units and local authorities to take effective measures to protect life and property during the flooding, which will continue today. Below are pictures taken by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper photojournalists around the city.
