-- A search for an eight-year-old boy who had been washed down a sewer in the southern Vietnamese province of Binh Duong by floodwater was still underway on Sunday night.

-- Ho Chi Minh City was severely inundated by heavy rains and high tide on Sunday night, while the water level is expected to continue rising on Monday.

-- The north-central provinces of Vietnam are at risk of being submerged once again as typhoon Sarika is forecast to make landfall on the region later this week.

-- The north to south train route is anticipated to operate again on Monday evening after repairs to the sections damaged by floodwater in the north-central province of Quang Binh are finished, according to the Vietnam Railways.

-- Over 6,000 rescuers have been tasked with assisting victims of the flooding in the central localities, which was caused by recent heavy downpours, according to the Vietnam National Committee for Search and Rescue.

-- The mosquito-borne Zika disease has become endemic in Vietnam after nine victims had tested positive in five provinces and cities, Tran Dac Phu, head of the General Department of Preventive Medicine under the Ministry of Health, affirmed on Sunday.

-- Vietnam’s state-run lottery company Vietlott on Sunday evening announced one person had won the jackpot of over VND92 billion (US$4 million) for the first time ever.  

-- Vietnam plays an increasingly important role in the world’s seafood supply chain as international businesses have been relocating their factories and services to the Southeast Asian country, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers said.

-- The Association of Vietnamese Students and Professionals in the United States has kicked off the 2017 VietChallenge, a competition dedicated to business ideas, with a focus on four main fields, namely technology, agriculture, clean energy, and healthcare.

-- Vietnam U19s are scheduled to compete with their opponents from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday night, as part of the 2016 AFC Championship U19 Final in Bahrain.

-- Vietnamese swimming superstar Anh Vien has signed up for 17 categories at this year’s national swimming competition, which begins in Hanoi on Monday.
