Wednesday, November 28, 2012, 15:43 GMT+7

Of the 62 locations prone to landslides in Ho Chi Minh City, 29 are considered the most dangerous, the city Steering Board for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control has warned. Of the 29 most worrisome areas, 12 are in Nha Be District, seven are in Binh Thanh District, and four are in Binh Chanh District. They include the Xom Cui Canal in Binh Chanh, the Tom and Ong Lon Canal areas in Nha Be,  and the left bank of the Truong Tho river port and the right side of the Phuc Long river port in Thu Duc District. Other spots are the end part of the embankment at the Con Doan Tourist Area, the end of the La San embankment, the Ly Hoang tennis court area, an area of lot D on the Thanh Da peninsula in Binh Thanh District, Tau Hu Canal, Binh Dong Quay, and the right sides of the Phuoc Loc and Long Kien Bridges in Nha Be District. It is worrying that concerned agencies have yet to enact any plans to protect these dangerous areas. The city Transport Department has ordered the inland waterway management zone to put up warning signs at these locations and coordinate with local authorities in monitoring them in order to effectively cope with any incidents. The Steering Board asked the department to speed up the progress of anti-landslide projects so that they can be put into use as soon as possible.
