1,000 dignitaries to attend Buddhist Congress

Over 1,000 dignitaries will take part in the 7th National Buddhist Congress to be held in Hanoi, Vietnam from November 21-24 to review activities of Buddhists of the previous five-year term and work out duties for the coming period.

Discussions at the event will focus on the topic “Inheritance, Stability and Development”, said superior Buddhist monk Thich Thien Nhon, deputy chairman and general secretary of the Buddhist Church of Vietnam, at a press conference in Hanoi on Nov.16.

Delegates will also review achievements and shortcomings of Buddhists of the previous 2007-2012 term and work out duties for the coming period from 2012-17.

At the congregation next week, dignitaries will also mention another focal task of spreading the Buddhism faith in remote areas, islands and border areas.
