The 13th National Assembly convened its sixth session in Hanoi this morning, with its top agenda covering the country’s important socio-economic development decisions.
Addressing the session, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung put emphasis on the importance of the sixth session, saying that it is time to review the country’s socio-economic development, defense and security projects, and progress in the fight against crime and corruption over the past three years. At the opening session, the deputies heard reports on the implementation of the socio-economic development plan for 2013 and the five-year (2011-2015) development plan as well as plans for 2014.
President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan also presented a report on the opinions and proposals of members of the public. The opening session will be broadcast live by the Vietnam Television (VTV) and the Radio Voice of Vietnam (VOV). During the session, the meeting will determine what is needed to be done next year and for the remainder of the five year (2011-2015) development plan, the Chairman said, adding that NA deputies will continue discussing and finalizing the draft amendments to the 1992 Constitution, and the draft revised law on land.
The NA will also ratify the Government’s personnel, elect positions for some NA agencies and decide other issues.
NA deputies will examine the Government’s report on the country’s economic restructuring master plan, review three years of implementation of national target programs for 2011-2015 and discuss the supplementary issuance of Government bonds to fund a number of important and urgent projects.
