Four teachers and education officials in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap had their faces seriously injured on Friday afternoon after they were attacked with acid by another teacher who is under disciplinary consideration for this assault.

The attacker was identified and arrested soon after the incident. He is Pham Minh Tien, a teacher at Tan Phu Junior High School in Thanh Binh District, said the local People’s Committee chairman Nguyen Van Na.

At 4:00 pm today, Tien rode a motorbike to the Thanh Binh Department of Education and Training.

He went upstairs to the working room of the department chief Do Phuoc Vinh, threw a mug of acid on Vinh’s face, and ran away.

Tien faced Dinh Van Can, deputy chief of the department, on the way and continued splashing acid on the official.

Driving to Thanh Binh Primary School, 1.5km from the education department, Tien went on to attack headmaster Nguyen Van Chien and female teacher Nguyen Thi Minh Trang with acid.

All the four victims had serious injuries on their faces then, chairman Na said.

Police are investigating the cause of the attacks.
