-- At a working session on Saturday, Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Andrey G. Kovtun said Russia’s priority policy is to support Vietnam in building its first nuclear power plant in the central province of Ninh Thuan .

-- Seven students of the Dau Tieng secondary school were washed away on Sunday when they were swimming in the sea of Can Gio in Ho Chi Minh City. By the end of the day, only two corpses were found. The victims were among 96 students and 19 teachers of the school visting the beach during a trip organized by the school and a travel agency.

-- Many households in HCMC suffered water outage on Sunday as due to a leak on the pipeline system that supplies water from the Thu Duc Water Plant to the city.

-- VNPT International and FPT Telecom announced Sunday that the AAG submarine cable system, which was cut off the coast of Vung Tau in mid-December, will resume service on January 9.

-- My Tho Police of Tien Giang Province Sunday arrested L.N.T, a 23-year-old agriculture engineer who has disguised as tourist to rent room at many hotels and stole the TV sets there. T confessed to police that he wanted to give the stolen TV to his fiancée as wedding gift.

-- Duong Chi Dung, who was sentenced to death on December 16, has filed an appeal to the Hanoi’s People’s Court, his lawyer said Sunday.

-- Workers and employees nationwide are longing for their cash bonus in Tet (Lunar New Year) but not all companies and businesses can afford adequate bonus at these hard economic times. Some businesses pay bonus in the products they manufacture like cooking oil or fish sauce.

-- Local resident on Con Dao Island of Vung Tau province are calling on the transport ministry to cut the price of air ticket to the island, which is currently VND1.65 million per ticket. Locals said the high airfare will prevent more tourists to visit the island, while being a burden for residents who have to frequently travel to and from the area.

-- Ake ome! 2014, a Japanese culture festival held to welcome the new year, kicked off Sunday in Hanoi.

-- Tickets for the 2014 International Under-19 Tournament match between U-19 Vietnam and U-19 Japan will be available today, according to the organizers. Some 10,000 tickets are expected to be sold, starting 9am.

-- Striker Le Cong Vien Sunday confirmed that he will stay with his home club Song Lam Nghe An, despite an attractive offer from Japanese club Consadole Sapporo to have him playing at the 2014 Second Division. The Japanese club had offered to pay Vinh US$10,000 per month if he accepted to leave Song Lam Nghe An.
