Do not be surprised if you get completely stuck in traffic at rush hour in the next three days in Vietnam’s major cities because almost 1 million 12th graders nationwide, many of whom with accompanying parents, will be traveling to and from school for the 2013 national high school graduation exam then.
Over 945,000 grade 12 students flooded 2,300 exam councils across the country on Saturday to finalize their registration for the exam, due to take place from June 2 to 4.
More than 40,300 exam rooms will be used and 140,000 proctors deployed for the students' second most important national exam, behind the college entrance tests to be given by the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) one month later.
The candidates will begin taking their high school graduation tests prepared by the ministry, which last from one to two and a half hours, at 7:25 in the morning and 14:15 in the afternoon.
Vietnam annually requires that those bound for college pass an English test, along with mandatory papers in math and literature during the high school exam.
There are also tests on three other subjects chosen each year by the education ministry, with chemistry, biology, and geography selected for the 2013 exam.
Those heading for college will then have to sit for MoET standardized tests on three subjects, depending on each major the students apply for, in early July.
