-- Lieutenant General Vo Van Tuan, deputy chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, confirmed to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Saturday that Major General Pham Minh Thang, deputy commander of Military Zone 9, had been killed in a road accident happening the same afternoon in Chau Thanh A District, located in the Mekong Delta province of Hau Giang.
-- Around midday on Saturday, a concrete platform gave way at a construction site to build a convention center, located in Ninh Kieu District in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho. The collapse killed one and critically injured four others.
-- According to the Vietnam National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, there is a mere 20 percent likelihood that Typhoon Mujigae, which is approaching southern China, will strike Vietnam. The northern waters of the Tonkin Gulf will experience strong gusts and highly rough seas this evening as a result of the storm.
-- Major Dao Hong Nguyen, head of the traffic police team in Nam Dan District in the north-central province of Nghe An, said on Saturday that they have transferred two men to an investigative agency after he defied local policemen’s order to stop and stabbed a police officer in the arm.

-- A representative of a joint venture between Vietnam-Japan Shipbuilding Counseling Co. and Japan-based Yanmar Co. said they will send a fleet of six boats next month to fish for deep-sea tuna adopting Japanese technology that has been successfully piloted in the south-central province of Khanh Hoa in the past several months. Most boats have returned to Hon Ro Fishing Port in the province’s Nha Trang City laden with huge catches of the fish.
-- The Ho Chi Minh City Institute for Development Studies has just submitted to Le Hoang Quan, chair of the municipal People’s Committee, a detailed plan on building a special economic zone, meant to create an auspicious environment and lure foreign investors.
-- Many people have hunted for specialty produce and seedlings of new plant varieties sold directly by farm owners at the Farm Expo 2015, which is going on in Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City.
