Lan Phuong, the former peace ambassador of Vietnam to Fukuoka, Japan and a representative of the country on the 36th Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Program (SSEAYP) 2009, as well as an actress in many movies, has nominated herself for the position of Vietnamese tourism ambassador for 2013 – 2014.

“I love travelling and studying different cultures, and I also want to introduce Vietnamese culture to international friends”, Phuong shared. “This decision came to me quickly, but not hastily. I have already taken part in some voluntary activities in order to introduce my country”, she added.

Lan Phuong is one of the most versatile actresses in Vietnam due to her talent for dancing, acting and speaking foreign languages, such as English, French and Japanese. Moreover, she was able to study at and graduate from the Foreign Trade University and the Academy of Theatre and Cinema at the same time. “I never waste any of my time”, Phuong affirmed.

Asked whether she would have to stop acting if she takes the tourism ambassador position, Lan Phuong said that she can do both jobs as long as she can manage her time in the same way.

In addition to the issue of time, while travelling as the tourism ambassador of Vietnam Phuong also has to support herself , which the former ambassador Ly Nha Ky did very well. Asked about this problem, Phuong said that she will seek sponsorship and added that, “the most important thing is how well we plan to reach the goal. Finance is not the big trouble”, she said.

“I am not afraid about being compared with Ly Nha Ky because everyone has their own advantages”, she added.

On March 18th, the Japanese consulate in Ho Chi Minh city sent a letter to Ly Nha Ky, the former tourism ambassador of Vietnam, to thank for her tireless effort while holding this position.

The Japanese Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, Harumitsu Hida, wrote, “The Japanese consulate in Ho Chi Minh city sincerely thanks the Vietnamese tourism ambassador Ly Nha Ky for her support for the consulate’s activities during the time period”, and they fully appreciate every effort of Ky in promoting Vietnamese tourism, which helps to popularize the country’s image.

While talking with a Tuoi Tre journalist on Wednesday, shared, “I decided not to run for the next term of tourism ambassador not because I want to put on airs . I always try to help my country in whatever position I hold.”
