Vietnam also rejects China’s claim over its “historical rights” to the waters, seabed and subsoil within the “nine-dash line” it unilaterally introduced, the Vietnam News Agency quoted Binh as saying. Binh voiced the statements in reply to reporters’ question on the country’s reaction to the Chinese government’s position paper on matter of jurisdiction in the East Sea issued on December 7. The spokesman emphasized that Vietnam has sufficient historical evidence and legal grounds to affirm her sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagoes as well as other legitimate rights and interests in the East Sea. In order to protect Vietnam’s legitimate rights and interests which may be influenced in the East Sea arbitration, Vietnam has expressed its related stance and point views to the United Nations Arbitral Tribunal and called for the tribunal’s attention to those rights and interests, the Radio Voice of Vietnam cited Binh as saying.
