A two-year-old dog has lived with a lone septuagenarian in southern Vietnam and helped her with daily activities by pulling a sled.

Residents in the border commune of Phuoc Vinh in Chau Thanh District, Tay Ninh Province, have become familiar with the dog named Vang and his 75-year-old owner Chau Thi My having their sled carry food every day.

Every morning, My borrows a small boat from a neighbor to row along the Vam Co River to catch snails, fish, pick water hyacinth and put them on a sled pulled by Vang to a local market for sale.

She earns nearly VND20,000 (US$0.89) after each market session, which is barely enough to support her and her best friend’s daily life.

It has been eight years since My decided to move to a small hut at Trung Dan Wharf and live alone to lift the burden on her children, who are all married and have to struggle with their underprivileged life.

During that length of time, dogs she raised like Vang have been her friends, and also her 'assistants.'

The woman taught them skills like swimming and sled pulling to help her with her everyday life.
