Police in Ho Chi Minh City have detained a five-member group that lured foreigners in Ho Chi Minh City to sex services, before robbing them.

The gang had successfully employed the strategy to mug multiple foreigners before being caught red-handed targeting three Malaysian tourists in District 5 on Sunday, police said yesterday.

One member, Pham Van Tien, 46, would disguise himself as a xe om (motorbike taxi) driver and offer rides to restaurants where they could ‘have some fun.’

If the victims accepted the ride, they would be introduced to gang member Chau Thi Huyen, 16.

Huyen would take the foreigners to the restaurants to ‘serve’ them, while notifying other members to come and mug the victims.

The other three members, including Nguyen Van Thanh, 46, Duong Van Son, 44 and Nguyen Trong Hien, 34, all from Ho Chi Minh City, were also arrested.

Police in District 5 are continuing their investigation.
