- Vietnam’s Prime Minister announced at the Saturday groundbreaking of the Ho Chi Minh City Pediatrics Hospital in Binh Chanh District that the government and city authorities will work together and speed up preparations for the construction of another three hospitals in the city, including Cho Ray 2 and Oncology 2 hospitals.

- Vietnam’s Prime Minister has approved of the addition of €393 million to the piloting urban railway construction project on the Nhon- Hanoi Station route. After four years, the project’s investment cost rises to around €1.2 billion from the original €783 million.

- HCMC Police’s Security Investigation Agency on Saturday detained blogger Nguyen Quang Lap, who is a popular author and scriptwriter.

-  According to an official of HCMC’s District 12 on Saturday, his commune conducted a raid and sent a number of drug addicts to a drug rehabilitation center. Tuoi Tre (Youth) Newspaper earlier on the same day reported the group of addicts had robbed people on National Highway 1 by threatening them with blood-stained needles.

- A traffic policeman in Chau Duc District in southern Ba Ria- Vung Tau Province on early Saturday crashed his BMW car into a local patrol squad on a road in the same district. The accident killed two squad members and injured seven others.

- 30 out of the 1,000 businesses who took part in the first-ever edition of Black Friday- the biggest promotional event of the year to be held annually on the first Friday of December- reported the total number of orders reached amounted to over 57,000, worth over VND80 billion (US$3.77 million). According to the latest statistics at 6pm on Friday, the event, online at onlinefriday.vn and ngaymuasamtructuyen.vn, and expected to become the Vietnamese equivalent of Black Friday in the U.S., has generated 8.7 million views of discounted products.

Lifestyle

- Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen, an 18-year-old university student from northern Vietnam’s Nam Dinh Province was crowned at the Miss Vietnam 2014 finale, which took place last night at the Vinpearl Phu Quoc Resort on the southern island of Phu Quoc in Kien Giang Province. The final night, attended by an audience of over 2,000 members, was graced by the performance of American pop star Kelly Clarkson, who won the first season of the renowned singing competition American Idol in 2002.

- Australia’s leading illusionist Cosentino is set to perform at the event when the results of the first semifinal of the Vietnam’s Got Talent 2014 show- the Vietnamese version of the global British “Got Talent” franchise- are announced. The event will take place at 8pm tonight, December 7, and be aired live on national channel VTV3.

Sports

- Only 29,000 tickets for the Vietnam- Malaysia return semifinal match of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2014, to take place at Hanoi’s My Dinh Stadium at 7pm next Thursday, has been sold, according to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).
