Monday, July 17, 2017, 11:30 GMT+7

Vietnamese carriers have rescheduled a number of domestic flights due to the impact of storm Talas that hit Vietnam’s north-central region on Sunday evening.

Tropical storm Talas, which hit north-central Vietnam on Sunday evening, had formed in the East Vietnam Sea on Saturday and is forecast to weaken into a tropical depression upon making landfall and then later a low-pressure area, causing downpours and strong winds in the northern and north-central region.

Airlines operating domestic flights in the affected regions have rescheduled flights to avoid the storm.

Vietnam Airlines cancelled flights VN1714, VN1715, VN1268 and VN1269 between Vinh City in central Vietnam and Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday evening.

The national flag carrier said it would arrange make-up flights on Monday for passengers who had booked tickets for the affected flights.

Four of Jetstar’s flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Vinh or Dong Hoi City on Sunday were also cancelled, namely BL524, BL525, BL350, BL351.

Vietnam Air Services Company, or VASCO, announced that it would stop operating flights 0V8590 and 0V8591 between Hanoi and Dong Hoi on Sunday.

Vietjet flights VJ250, VJ249, VJ218, VJ220, VJ219, VJ221, VJ264 và VJ265 were all also cancelled on Sunday evening, affecting passengers flying between Ho Chi Minh City and Thanh Hoa, Vinh and Dong Hoi.

Those who had had their flights cancelled would be eligible to catch rescheduled for flights on Monday if seats were available, according to announcements made by Vietjet.

Passengers flying to and from Noi Bai, Cat Bi, Tho Xuan, Vinh, Dong Hoi, Phu Bai and Da Nang airports this week are advised to confirm with their airlines about departure times to avoid inconvenience.

As of Monday morning, Vietnam had reported one casualty caused by the tropical storm, with many thousands of homes in the affected areas destroyed, according to the National Committee for Search and Rescue.
