Customs officers in Ho Chi Minh City uncovered over seven kilograms of marijuana hidden in three parcels originating from the United States.

The express customs branch of the municipal customs department confirmed on Thursday that a total of 7.3 kilograms of marijuana were found during an inspection of three packages sent from the U.S.

According to a source close to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, several suspicious details about the packages prompted officers to thoroughly inspect their contents.

The illegal drugs were eventually found hidden in boxes of raisins covered in layers of plastic sheeting.

The packages were transferred to competent authorities for further investigation.

According to the Customs Department of Ho Chi Minh City, the agency prioritizes staff training to ensure officials are able to promptly deal with violations.
