​Good things come in threes: triplets born in Can Tho

Doctors in Can Tho City, located in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta, successfully helped deliver three baby girls in a rare premature triplet birth.

Q.D.H., 24, a resident of neighboring Kien Giang Province, arrived at the Can Tho Maternity Hospital Emergency Room shortly after going into labor.

An initial examination showed that the woman was in her 36th week of a triple pregnancy when her water broke prematurely.

Doctors made the decision to perform surgery to deliver the babies in order to avoid any health complications.

With the effective coordination of doctor from several departments, the three baby girls were born, each weighing 2.1 kilograms.

The mother and her triplets are both in stable health conditions and H. has been able to breast feed her babies.

The newborns were also given skin-to-skin care to control their body temperatures.

According to Nguyen Quoc Tuan, a senior doctor at the hospital, triplet pregnancy happens at a rate of one in 8,000.

The type of pregnancy poses many risks to the mother, including high blood pressure, gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, increased chance of seizures, and hemophilia.

Woman pregnant with triplets are also likely to go into labor prematurely which can pose several threats to the infants.

In H.’s case, prompt treatment played a crucial role in ensuring the health of both herself and the triplets.

It is advisable that women with multiple pregnancies have their health checked regularly to prevent potential risks.
