-- Thai Consulate-General in Ho Chi Minh City and representatives of the Thai community in southern Vietnam on Tuesday handed over US$20,000 to cancer patients and parents of child patients at the city’s Oncology Hospital.   

-- Two hundred households and over 1,000 elementary students and teachers in the outlying district of Binh Chanh, Ho Chi Minh City have been evacuated following an  ammonia leakage at a factory in the neighborhood on Monday, local officials have confirmed.

-- Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Deputy Minister of National Defense, has requested control be tightened over operation of unmanned aerial vehicles and drone cameras over an increasing number of unlicensed flights detected in recent times.

-- Police in the Mekong Delta province of Long An have revealed they had begun legal proceedings against a 26-year-old male suspect for stealing credit card information from a Japanese businessman and withdrawing over VND590 million (US$ 25,699) in November 2016.

-- Seven people were killed and 584 homes were inundated during the downpours and flooding triggered by a tropical depression in the north-central province of Nghe An, a local official confirmed on Tuesday evening.

-- Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung urged the Ministry of Industry and Trade, state-run oil and gas giant PetroVietnam, and U.S. Exxon Mobil Corp to speed up negotiations for Blue Whale gas project, Vietnam's biggest, during a working session on Tuesday with Paul Greenwood, the Texas-based group’s Gas and Power Bpa Manager.

-- Vu Duy Hai, general director of Vinacam Co., disclosed during a ceremony on Tuesday they were working closely with farmers to grow rice that meet Global Good Agricultural Practice (G.A.P) certificate in a bid to put the Vietnamese staple on supermarket racks in fastidious markets including the U.S., the U.K. Australia and Japan.

-- More than 1,000 flights were cancelled within the past nine months, according to a report released on Tuesday by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.

-- The People’s Committee of south-central Khanh Hoa province, home to resort city Nha Trang, was working with the Ministry of National Defense before seeking approval from Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc to launch tourist services on Binh Ba and Hon Chut islands, nestled in Cam Ranh Bay, part of which is a military base, its deputy chair Tran Son Hai, said on Tuesday.
