People in flood-hit Chuong My District, outside Hanoi, have turned ‘fishermen,’ hunting for fish in flooded areas to make up for their property losses.
As of Friday, floodwater was still rising in multiple communes including Hoang Van Thu, Nam Phuong Tien, and Tan Tien, a Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper correspondent reported from the scene.
Water is seen everywhere, making it impossible to distinguish between the roads and rivers.
The only possible means of transport at the moment in these heavily flooded areas is boat.
Downpours over the past several days have caused flash floods across northern and north-central Vietnam, resulting in landslides and devastating the lives of dozens of thousands of people.
At least 60 people died while 36 others remained unaccounted for in the disaster.
Affected localities included Yen Bai, Son La, Hoa Binh, Thanh Hoa, and Nghe An.
The floods have destroyed 328 houses, inundated 33,348 residences, damaged 86,790 hectares of farm produce, and killed 44,877 poultries and cattle.
It is expected that torrential rains will continue hitting central and north-central Vietnam from October 15 to 17.
