Two earthquakes measuring 4.4 and 3.2 on the Richter scale struck two provinces in northern Vietnam on Friday morning, according to the Vietnam Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Center under the Institute of Geophysics.
The first tremor, with a magnitude of 4.4, hit Muong Te District in Lai Chau Province at around 4:50 am.
The second, with a magnitude of 3.2, occurred in Yen Lac District, Vinh Phuc Province at 8:09 am.
Both quakes hit at a depth of about 16km and imposed zero disaster risks.
The Vietnam Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Center said it continued to monitor aftershocks following the incidents.
In June 2020, an earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale struck Muong Te, causing the ceiling of a kindergarten to fall, injuring four kids.
Some other houses and public buildings had huge cracks.
In Vietnam, earthquakes of magnitude 4-4.9 have mild intensity, usually shaking household objects and causing little or minor damage, according to the Institute of Geophysics.
On average, there are 10,000-15,000 earthquakes of magnitude 4-4.9 around the world every year.
