Forest rangers in Phu Quoc Island City off Kien Giang Province in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta caught eight people red-handed illegally cutting down trees in a forest on Wednesday.
The eight people include Phu Quang Dong, 46, Bui Quang Trung, 35, Tran Quoc Dat, 30, Doan Toan Em, 25, Nguyen Thanh Long, 41, Huynh Van Hiep, 55, Thi Van Thao, 24, and Bui Xuan Thuy, 33 -- all local people.
They had destroyed a tree area of more than 2,000 square meters at a natural forest in Phu Quoc’s Ganh Dau Commune at the time the rangers arrived.
The officers seized a saw, three grass cutters, three iron machetes, and other items used for deforestation at the scene.
The loggers have been temporarily kept in custody and relevant exhibits have been confiscated for legal proceedings.
