The number of criminal cases in the suburban areas of Ho Chi Minh City plummeted by nearly 30 percent from 2008 to the first half of 2015 in comparison with that of the preceding period.
The statistic was announced on Thursday at a conference organized by the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee to review seven years of implementing a commune-level ordinance, staring in 2008.
In the period between 2008 and the first half of 2015, criminal offenses in five of Ho Chi Minh City’s suburban districts, including Binh Chanh, Cu Chi, Can Gio, Nha Be and Hoc Mon, decreased by over 2,300 cases, or 28.33 percent compared to those of 2000-07.
This is a significant achievement, for it shows that police officers in the five districts have worked hard to ensure security for residents, said Le Thanh Liem, vice chairman of the People’s Committee.
The Ministry of Public Security should consider upsizing the number of regular officers to reinforce the police force and thus continue the mission to narrow down criminal cases, Liem added.
The vice chair also proposed that the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs and the Ministry of Public Security soon give detailed instructions on how to achieve social and health insurance for semi-regular police officers.
