The Vietnam Education Foundation (VEF) has recently announced its 2016 VEF Fellowship Program which expects to award approximately 34 fellowships to Vietnamese nationals to begin graduate studies in the United States in the fall of that year.

Accordingly, VEF will provide a US$27,000 per year grant for two years to a U.S. educational institution to support a VEF fellow in either an M.S. or an M.S./Ph.D. program and a $1,000 Professional Development Grant to the fellow for each of the two years of tenure.

VEF also provides airfares to the U.S. and back at the end of the two years after completion of a master’s degree or doctoral studies.

According to the foundation, winners will be chosen based on individual merit, including academic performance and preparation, intellectual capability, English proficiency and the potential for contribution to scientific education and research in Vietnam.

Applicants, who must be proficient in English, do not need to pay any fees in order to apply or be considered for a VEF fellowship.

They are required to becollege graduates and students who will receive at least a bachelor’s degree in a field eligible for support in the VEF Fellowship Program, including sciences, mathematics, medicine, engineering, and technology.

The eligible overall grade point average from a college or university is at least 7/10.

Applications are only accepted online at www.vef.gov from 10:00 am on December 10, 2014 to 10:00 am on April 10, 2015.

The Vietnam Education Foundation is an independent U.S. Federal Government agency created by the U.S. Congress, according to its website.

VEF will receive an annual budget of $5 million from the U.S. Congress until 2018.

Its primary purpose is to promote the bilateral relationship between the United States and Vietnam through educational exchanges, both for Vietnamese nationals to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate studies in the United States in the sciences (natural, physical and environmental), engineering, mathematics, medicine (including biomedical sciences as well as epidemiology, nutrition and biostatistics within public health), and technology (including information technology), and for American citizens to teach in the same fields of study in Vietnam.
