The Vietnamese Ministry of Transport has proposed that passenger vehicles with nine seats or more must be equipped with CCTV cameras to record footage inside the vehicles during the entire journey.
The proposal is part of a tentative decree on transportation business which the transport ministry recently submitted to the prime minister for approval.
The draft decree was established based on opinions collected from relevant ministries as well as experts in various fields, it said.
In order to ensure security and safety for passengers, the provisional decree highlighted that all coaches and passenger buses with nine seats or more, including the driver’s seat, must be outfitted with cameras prior to July 1, 2021.
The cameras must be installed so as to leave no blind spots inside the vehicle.
Footage from these cameras must be stored for at least 24-72 hours, depending on each vehicle’s operating range, and be submitted to competent authorities upon request.
Similarly, trucks and tractor-trailers must also be equipped with cameras inside the driver’s cabin, according to the same draft decree.
Transport businesses which operate the above mentioned vehicles are responsible for storing the camera footage.
