Beating their Thai rivals 4-2 on Sunday, Vietnam secured one of the two spots of Group A to enter the semifinals of an annual international U21 football championship organized by Thanh Nien (Young People) newspaper and the Vietnam Football Federation.

Thailand had been held to a 2-2 draw by Singapore at Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City at the 9th International Thanh Nien Newspaper U-21 Football Tournament.

With only three teams in each of the two groups, the winners of the other ticket of Group A will be determined after the match between Vietnam and Singapore at 3:30 pm on Tuesday.

The other group puts together Vietnam’s Hoang Anh Gia Lai, Myanmar, and South Korean Students U-19s.

The Koreans have pocketed a ticket of Group B to advance to the last-four round after beating Myanmar 2-1.

The tournament has the participation of six teams divided into two groups of three.

The 2015 event is organized from November 20 to 29.
