An employee at a prominent hospital in Hanoi has been temporarily suspended from work after a video capturing her receiving a stack of envelopes containing cash inside went viral on social media.
Bui Dieu, director of the K Hospital, confirmed to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Friday afternoon that a female doctor had been temporarily relieved of work to clarify the case.
The doctor was caught in a video, uploaded by a Facebook user named Hoang Dieu, taking a stack of envelopes containing money from family members of a patient.
According to the viral footage, the female doctor said that she was receiving the ‘under-the-table’ money on behalf of the surgeons who were responsible for the operation on the patient, adding that the family members had to hand the money to other nurses and assistant surgeons.
She also showed the people where and who they should give the money to.
The Facebook user stated that the video clip was recorded at the K Hospital in the Vietnamese capital.
The Ministry of Health sent a document to the infirmary on Thursday, ordering its managers to clarify the incident and submit a report on it prior to June 9.
According to Director Dieu, the reason why the female doctor received such a large amount of money will be found out after she finishes preparing her own report.
Dieu asserted that such activity was not common at the hospital, adding that it was only committed by a few individuals.
