The Vietnam – India Cultural Week is being held in Ho Chi Minh City this week to mark the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 10th anniversary of the Strategic Partnership between the countries.

Organized by the city’s Union of Friendship Organization at the Youth Cultural House in District 1, the week is set to conclude on January 14 and will feature a series of activities, including photo exhibitions on the Vietnam – India diplomatic relationship, exhibitions on the culture and cuisine of India, and a fashion for friendship walk.

At the opening ceremony on January 7, the National-Political publishing house presented translated copies of the Vedas Upanishad, which contain the central philosophical concepts of Hinduism, to the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City.

A warm gathering of the Indian community in the city was also held on January 9 on the occasion of the 14th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas (Non-Resident Indian Day).

With millions of Indians living overseas and contributing in many ways, including financially, the Indian government began celebrating their numerous achievements and contributions by establishing Pravasi Bhartiya Divas in 2003, to be held on January 9 each year.

"The Indian community in HCMC is small but is an active and dynamic participant and has played an effective role in being a bridge between India and Vietnam, and in further strengthening cultural, tourism, educational and other links between the two countries,” Consul General Smita Pant said at the event.
