Heat, up to 40°C, to go on across Vietnam until weekend

The ongoing heat throughout Vietnam, reaching up to 40 degrees Celsius in the central region, will continue in coming days before cooling a bit this weekend, the National Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Center has said. Yesterday, May 18, the highest temperatures in northern provinces ranged from 35 to 37 degrees on average while central coastal provinces experienced the heat at 36-39 degrees. In Hanoi, the lowest and highest temperatures were 27-29 degrees and 35-37 degrees. The hottest weather yesterday was recorded in Quy Hop and Con Cuong Districts in central Nghe An Province, where the highest temperature topped 40 degrees Celsius. In central Thua Thien-Hue Province, the temperature was a bit lower, at over 39 degrees.   In the southeastern region, the highest temperatures on Sunday were 36-37 degrees. In Ho Chi Minh City, the weather was cooler, at about 35 degrees. Today, northern Vietnam continues to experience hot weather at 35-38 degrees or higher, while the central coastal region will have the highest temperature of up to over 39 degrees. In the southern part, the lowest and highest temperatures on Monday will be 25-29 degrees and 33-37 degrees. At around 2:00 pm today, Hanoi and Hue had the same highest temperature at 36 degrees, while HCMC was hotter, at 37 degrees. In general, the hot climate will continue nationwide until Friday before easing over the weekend, when rainstorms occur in many localities in the northern and southern regions, the center said.
