A traffic police officer caused an accident that injured a man, himself and a traffic cop while he was chasing after a violator in the central highlands city of Da Lat on Friday.

The incident occurred at about 9pm when traffic policeman Nguyen Hoai Phong carrying a comrade behind chased after a motorist who zigzagged and traveled at a high speed.

When they were on Hung Vuong Street, Phong drove his specialized motorbike onto the left lane to overtake a truck but accidentally crashed into a motorbike traveling in the opposite direction.

Phan Ba Loc, the man on the motorbike, was unconscious while Phong and his comrade sustained injuries.

Loc was later taken to hospital for treatment and was discharged the same day.

Nguyen Tan Vu, deputy head of Da Lat police department, told Tuoi Tre the above incident was accidental, adding that local police have yet to catch the traffic violator.
